Rather than delaying community impact during the multi-year design phase of the permanent facility, we propose an agile, temporary installation on Rainier Avenue or another similarly long-vacant or blighted site. Utilizing a modular clear-span frame and high-performance translucent tensile membranes, this structure can be deployed quickly without pouring permanent concrete foundations. It floods the space with natural daylight, facilitates vibrant evening light-projection shows, and can be completely disassembled and 100% re-used elsewhere once the permanent facility opens—leaving a zero-waste site footprint.
Additionally, a temporary structure would demonstrate proof-of-concept that such a translucent skate facility could activate the community and become economically viable, reassuring potential land-owners.
